VISION AND VALUES

VISION: WHY ARE WE A CHURCH?

Eastside Community Church exists to glorify God by making disciples who are learning to follow Jesus daily, living the gospel together, and loving our neighbors authentically.

VALUES: HOW DO WE WANT TO GROW?

Everything starts with God. He alone sees this world and each person accurately. He alone knows what it means to love each individual He has made.  We do not believe that we are defined by what we do or how we perform, but by His perfect work on our behalf through the person of Jesus Christ. This good news of Jesus Christ loves us where we are but never leaves us unchanged.  We as a church want to live out the following values because of what Jesus has done for us:

LEARNING TO FOLLOW JESUS DAILY | WORSHIPERS AND DISCIPLES

Jesus began and ended His ministry on earth by calling people to “repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” and to “follow [Him]”. These two commands shape our life together as a people. At Eastside, we want to turn from worshiping this world and what it says is most valuable (repent) and turn to Jesus as the one who is supremely valuable and worthy of our lives (believe). We also want to simply and practically follow what Jesus taught one day at a time. We do not believe that Christianity is a religion to be tried, but a person to worship and follow.  We are learning more each day about what it means to worship and follow Jesus, and we welcome you to join us in that process.

(Mark 8:34; Matthew 4:17-20; 28:18-20; John 1:1-18; 21:19; Luke 9:23-25)

LIVING THE GOSPEL TOGETHER | FAMILY AND GOSPEL COMMUNITY

We believe that the good news of Jesus is meant to be lived out in community, rather than in isolation. Our great hope is that the gospel would form each and every part of our lives.  We aim to work together to not just know or sing the gospel, but to actually live it out. The gospel does not just get us into Heaven, but it shapes our entire lives—from our work days to how we spend our weekends and tuck our kids in at night.  We believe those who are in Christ are God’s chosen people, set apart to live in such a way that shows the world what He is like. Through faith in Jesus, we become children of God and brothers and sisters to one another. As God’s family, we care personally for the needs of one another, both physically and spiritually, and we disciple, nurture, and hold each other accountable to live out the gospel . We do this through regularly gathering together for worship, consistently engaging in discipleship relationships, and loving one another as the Father has loved us.

LOVING OUR NEIGHBORS AUTHENTICALLY | MISSIONARIES AND SERVANTS

Jesus took on human form and became the true image of God in our world. He worked, ate, and lived among people in such a way that they could see and experience what God is truly like. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus proclaimed the good news and brought healing, freedom, and new life to those He served. Then, after He died on the cross for our sins, the Spirit raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus promised that all those who belong to God would have the same Holy Spirit , who would give us power to continue the ministry of Jesus in our lives and relationships. We are missionaries sent and empowered by God’s Spirit to proclaim Jesus and show those we come in contact with what God is like. An important and powerful part of following Jesus is loving our neighbors the way Jesus loved.  We believe that He has good works for us to walk into, and that like Jesus, we have been sent to serve and to love those around us.
